PE and Sports Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to primary schools to support high-quality physical education and sporting opportunities for all children.

The funding is designed to help schools:

  • Develop and enhance the PE and sporting activities they provide.

  • Build capacity and make improvements that are sustainable for the future.

PE and Sport at High Down

Every class has a weekly PE lesson, which follows the objectives of the National Curriculum. Our PE curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop their skills and experience a wide range of activities, including:

  • Indoor and outdoor sports, such as football, rugby, cricket, hockey and netball

  • Gymnastics

  • Dance

We also regularly take part in a variety of competitive sporting events, giving our children the opportunity to represent our school and compete against other schools within our Trust, as well as local schools in the wider community.

Swimming

We want every child to leave our school with the confidence and skills they need to stay safe in and around water. During their time with us, children have the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons and work towards achieving the following outcomes:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.

  • Use a range of strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
