HD Houses

Our House System

Pupil leadership is an important part of life at High Down. We encourage children to take responsibility, represent their peers and work collaboratively across all year groups, developing confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.

Our School has four houses: Matthew, Balmoral, Waverley and SS Great Britain. Each year, Year 6 pupils can put themselves forward to become a House Captain. Candidates present their ideas to their house and explain why they would be a good leader before pupils vote democratically for their chosen representative.

Our House Captains and Vice Captains play an important role in bringing children together and supporting school life. We are proud of the leadership, teamwork and enthusiasm they demonstrate.

Children earn House Points for demonstrating our school values, showing kindness and respect, working together, and for effort, perseverance and achievement in their learning. Each term, we celebrate the house with the most points. Find out more in our school newsletter.
